 Yup, carving and sharing these Jack'O'Liskas has pretty much become a tradition for me over the last thirteen Halloweens. This year I've created an all new design you can use to carve your very own Jack'O'Chicken! It takes a lot of guts to carve these pumpkins, but if you decide to take a stab at it anyways, you can get a template by scrolling down and clicking on the desired image, then right click on the template and select "save image" (you probably know how to do this better than me already!). You'll want to resize the templates to be as large as possible, otherwise, you might find it too hard to do the fine detail, and there's a good chance your pumpkin will self-destruct, like my first Liska did. Ideally, the pumpkin you choose should be big enough to hold a large chihuahua.

 Once you have printed out the template, tape it to a hollowed out pumpkin. To transfer the pattern, I poked holes through it into the pumpkin with a compass, then connected the dots after removing the paper. Now all you have to do is cut out the appropriate sections, starting with the smallest ones first (Very important!!!). Towards the end, you'll probably be quite frightened that you might make a mistake and ruin the whole thing, but that's okay, Halloween is supposed to be scary!...but not dangerous! Just a final note, please be careful while you're carving, and any kids out there should get help from an adult. I carved the Skip'O'Lantern on Thanksgiving 1997, and believe me, I was plenty thankful I had my hand somewhere else when my knife slipped. Skippy would be really grossed out if he learned somebody severed an appendage because of him (though Liska might think that would be really cool!) |
