This Week's Strip

#168) "When Spaced, Nobody Can Hear You Scheme"
June 5, 2000

From the very beginning of the strip I knew that I wanted to be able to parody various elements of pop-culture, however to do so required that the animals to be knowledgeable of movies and T.V. shows, which isn't very plausible with them living out in the forest.

One solution I came up with was to have a local drive-in theatre where they could catch the occasional show. It's believable enough even though there aren't really any drive-ins around where the strip takes place any more, which is a shame.

Anyways, the second Aliens film was just too potentially fun a movie not to parody, especially given how the animals' perspective of it differs from that of normal humans, and Liska's little joke on Heywood made for a humorous way to introduce the drive-in to their comic strip world.
