This story arc was inspired by a T.V. series called F/X, in which the main characters used their expertise in creating Hollwood special effects to help catch criminals.
I never really got into the show to deeply, but the premise did give me wonder what would happen if Liska used the same techniques for her own purposes.
Of course, Liska having different sensibilities from the average Hollwood special effects artist has different standards regarding what constitutes an acceptable level of realism...
