This Week's Strip

#68) "Animal Cruelty" August 10, 1998

As I've observed before, one of the archetypical storylines featuring anthropomorphized animals involves the main characters being persecuted and abused by humanity. When done right, it makes for great drama and social commentary, but the device is probably just a little overused within the genre.

This strip does a pretty good job of showing how I occasionally like to knock this particular convention on it's ear, with the humans ultimately being the ones who end up being victimized.

It also shows my love affair with melodramatics, working up a character into an extreme overwrought state over a humourous reason. Poor Skippy is really freaked out here, just not for the reasons a character normally would be in a situation like this.
